Trying to pick up where I left off is a bit tricky; with fresh eyes I reluctantly have to admit a number of mistakes already, but I feel trapped by the weight of what I have done so far.
The menu system for the site, which I thought so clever, is hard to use - I caught myself preferring the menu proper to the candy in the tray. I have relented and added links within the menu itself. The candy looks nice - beautiful, even, but it is impractical from a web design standpoint. Damn.
My monitor is limited to a maximum resolution of 1280 X 768; the upshot of this is that I cannot know what the website looks like to others with higher resolutions - at least until I check someone elses' monitor. Which, when done, reveals my artsy-fartsy design crammed into one corner of the screen.
I wish I could center the whole affair, but I cannot; WYSIWYG's (my editor for this site) center command screws up the positioning, which becomes relative at that point, and everything goes to hell.
Although I think that Takozushi thus far is the most beautiful website I have ever created (it's like a magazine or a book!), the fact is that I kind of wish I had stayed with WebExpress, that old moldy, unsupported abandonware I use for everything else. It doesn't look as pretty, but web design that stretches to fit the screen has its advantages. Absolute positioning is gorgeous, yes, but not if the monitor is at a higher resolution than the original design. Damn, again.
